Precautions
  • Africa Yoga - Cape st FrancisPersons suffering from dizziness or high blood pressure should not practice any inversions without strict supervision of a YOGA teacher and without following the correct sequence of poses before and after the topsy-turvy postures;
  • Those suffering from pus in the ears or displacement of the retina should not do inversions;
  • No undue strain should be felt in the facial muscles, ears, eyes or in the breathing during practice;
  • During the menstrual period women should take their yoga practice easy and under no circumstances should she do any inversions;
  • Pregnant women can practice most postures during the first trimester, thereafter it is advisable to ask for a separate pre-natal class as some specific yoga postures will certainly help with labor pains and delivery, and others will be either impossible or not wise to do, it is not sensible to practice yoga during the first month after delivery;
  • It is important to honor your own body whilst doing your YOGA practice, a faulty practice will cause discomfort and uneasiness within a few days, listen to your body and work with it;
  • Although you may feel blocks and stiffness whilst in a pose and you may feel like pushing yourself just a little further to help lengthen your hamstrings etc, under no circumstances should you ever feel a pinching in the lower back, or shooting pains down the arms or legs .
